As a writer, people trust me with their stories. These stories have power—the power to impact the person, the reader, and the community.
Throughout my career, I have taken the power of story to heart, and this has informed my work since my early days at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The AJC is where I got a sense of narrative arc, how stories come together with the right mix of perspectives, data, and context to illuminate issues and people and move the reader.
My passion has always been nonprofit work. I love the sense of purpose and connection to something bigger than myself. I love the incredible feeling of accomplishment when working alongside people in a community to bring about change. And when it comes to stories, there are so many interconnected narratives to tell. When told the right way and to the right audience, these stories can change lives.
What I do:
Nonprofit storytelling, nonprofit communication, and donor communication. My focus is on telling the right narrative in an honest way that moves people.
Fundraising, specializing in grantwriting, donor cultivation and stewardship, and fundraising planning. There is an art to crafting an effective proposal, campaign, or nonprofit appeal that inspires people to give. I also welcome the opportunity to brand or re-brand an organization in a way that inspires people to want to know more.
Education from an advocacy perspective. This combines my time as an award-winning education reporter with the volunteer opportunities I have had to support local schools and students.
College essay coaching. I support high school seniors in telling their stories. It’s exciting to see them find their voice as they set about on their next educational journey.
